Works for Queensland is a State Government Grant for the improvement of council owned assets and it was awarded to regional councils across Queensland in early 2017.

The timescales for delivery of Round 1 were extremely tight and all projects had to be completed before the end of November 2017.

Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council decided to utilise Local Buy to speed up the procurement of items for their social precinct to improve the facilities in their community. Grants Manager, Jacqui Cresswell approached Local Buy Regional Client Relationship Manager, Emma Peters to assist with the process.

Emma regularly travels to Cairns to meet her customers and was able to sit with Jacqui to assist her use VendorPanel to issue Requests for Quote for solar lighting, a gazebo, a BBQ, picnic furniture and a playground.

Using Vendor Panel ensures good governance surrounding the issuing of quotations and promotes a fair and equitable process for all suppliers involved.

Council were able to procure items for their precinct and have them installed before the grant deadline and importantly before the wet season commenced due to utilising Local Buy to make the procurement process as efficient as possible.

Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council were so pleased with their new social precinct they entered the IPWEAQ (Institute of Public Works Engineers Queensland) Annual Awards in the Category of "Projects Under $2M" and were awarded as winners.
