Local Buy representatives recently attended the Rural Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Forum in Croydon, North Queensland.  The event was jointly hosted by the Croydon Shire Council and the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (Queensland).  It provided the opportunity for councils from the region to discuss recent road and civil projects and share information with colleagues from neighbouring councils.  Industry representatives were also able to demonstrate new products and meet council representatives.

Local Buy conducted a presentation highlighting Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council’s use of the BUS242 Civil Works arrangement for their airstrip upgrade project.  The project is currently underway and is a major undertaking for the Council, with a total project value exceeding $4million.  Local Buy was extremely grateful to Tom Smith, Infrastructure Manager from Mapoon ASC who co-presented with Emma Peters and Pat McCormack from Local Buy, providing the audience with an insight into the planning and delivery of this major project,  and the value of using Local Buy prequalified supplier arrangements.

A number of social activities gave attendees the chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.  The highlight was a trip on the Gulflander train to an outdoor location where the beautiful North Queensland sunset provided the backdrop to a musical performance by students from Croydon State School, followed by a roast dinner under the stars.
